Chopping wood is a world-class feat

Axes and saws are their tools; strength, determination and skill are their talents. From July 19 through 22, it’s a rare chance to witness world-class woodchopping and sawing at venues in Wasaga Beach. Forty top athletes from across the country will be competing for top honours in their categories at the Stihl Timbersports Canadian Championship, part of an international series of competitions. The contests are truly exciting. Watch a contestant use two springboards to ascend to the top of a nine-foot pole where he/she must chop off a firmly attached foot-wide block from both sides, all of this faster than anyone else. And that’s just one of several displays of prowess. Canadian contestants are known for setting world records. Who knows, you may see a world record in the making!
