Lighting up a wintry night

The annual First Light at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons in Midland is casting its spectacular glow over the 17th century mission once again. Illumined by 5,000 candles, the historic site offers a festive holiday experience to visitors, with an array of family activities and performers. Stroll candlelit paths. Visit the cookhouse to watch traditional baking and don’t forget to sample the cookies! Historic demonstrations of skills like blacksmithing and cornhusk doll-making for the children are part of the fun. The sounds of drumming, folksongs and the music of choirs will fill the air. First Light is on from November 29 to December 1 and December 6 to 9. Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons is only a half-hour drive from Georgian Sands in Wasaga Beach.
