Weather folklore tells us that if it rains on St.Swithin’s Day, there will be 40 days of rain to follow. On the other hand, if it’s fair, then 40 days of fair weather is on the way. July 15, this Sunday, is the day to watch. St.Swithin was a 9th century Anglo Saxon bishop who, unlike previous bishops, wanted to be buried outside Winchester cathedral so the rain could fall on his grave. A successor didn’t agree and moved him inside to what was considered a more fitting shrine. A huge downpour ensued, breaking a long drought. The rain lasted for 40 days. This year, weather forecasts for July 15 look sunny and warm for Wasaga Beach. Fingers crossed!
