The start of a new year signals the New Year’s levee in many communities across Canada. Levees in Canada date back to the 1600s, when fur traders met with their government representatives on New Year’s Day for men-only gatherings. Women were allowed to join in the 1940s. This January 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Recplex, Wasaga Beach renews the tradition of the New Year’s levee. Residents and business owners are invited to meet Mayor Bifolchi and enjoy light refreshments. The Recplex is located at 1724 Mosley Street, just a short drive from Georgian Sands.
